Starting off in the sculpture garden, I found myself drawn towards a wooden sculpture of a horse that was encased in a thick laquer to make it water proof. I instantly recognized the work, as a sculpture by the same artist used to be in my mothers workplace in downtown Seattle. It brought so many memories back.

During our walk around campus during class, there were many places we visited that I had never explored before. These places included the ‘Birthplace of the Internet”, a phage research lab, the meteorite gallery, and the botanical gardens. All of these spots served eye-opening experiences into the things they held.
Part I
Part 1: We had our first in-person meeting this Tuesday, the professor assigned us an interesting activity which was walking from North campus to South campus, and we need to arrive at the location that the professor asked us to go to, which includes places like Birthplace of the Internet and Meteorite gallery, which I did not know their presence. Before I walked around campus during the class, I had only been to South campus about two or three times since I did not have class there.

Part 1:
This past Tuesday was the Lunar New Year and I was really excited to be able to attend the Hox Zodiac event for class. It was cool to see how the participants called in from all over the world and were all from a diverse group of backgrounds. I loved hearing how each person was able to bring elements of their own culture into celebrating Lunar New Year through introducing their own dishes and traditions. Although this holiday originates from Asia, it was great seeing people from many other continents participating in this day.
The Hox Zodiac event this past Tuesday in celebration of the Year of the Tiger was a great way to learn more about the significance of the Chinese Zodiac and about the many ecological and social issues that can be connected to the Zodiac animals. The two different topics of discussion that stood out to me were the poaching and endangerment of tigers and the Breath Library project.
Part 1
Last week, we were lucky enough to be given some time to enjoy the occurrence of the Chinese New Year. Through a collaborative event hosted by our professor, Victoria Vesna, we were able to learn more about this upcoming year, our personal zodiacs, and unexpectedly were given some time to reflect and meditate.
PART 1:
This week was such a fun and welcome break from the traditional demands of academia. To share food, ideas, and to celebrate other forms of life and practices through the lens of the Chinese Zodiac was a very centering experience. Especially given the turmoil in our university right now, and the massive shifts, tectonic rifts really, we are living though as we move into a new world, to make time to be animals was very moving.
